Character's History: We don't know much about Emily's origins, aside from the fact that she is Sera's younger sister. It's possible she was made by God or the Speaker of God, given that she is a seraphim: the highest order of angel. Whatever the case, she lived a long time in Heaven, working to spread joy as her primary duty.

Emily first enters the story in season 1 episode 6. When Charlie and Vaggi go to Heaven to speak with the head angels about the potential of redemption for sinners. Emily greets them at the gates alongside her sister. She ends up showing the two around, spending most of the day with Charlie while Vaggi opts to rest.

Later in the episode, Charlie tries to prove to the council of Heaven that sinners have the potential to be redeemed. When Charlie proves that her patron, Angel Dust, has improved based on the guidelines provided. Emily agrees and argues in her favor. During the argument, Archangel Adam (the first man) accidentally reveals that once a year Heaven's Army goes down and exterminates sinners. Emily is horrified by this news and asks if Sera knew. When she reveals that she did, Emily is distraught, becoming ashamed of her sister and disgusted by her actions. She takes Charlie's side, saying that Heaven must be a lie if the current status quo is to be believed.

Despite her best efforts, Sera says that there is no proof a soul can be redeemed and Adam gleefully returns Charlie and Vaggi back to Hell, with Emily promising Charlie she'll do something to fix this. Sera later expresses concern over her sister, saying that if she continues on this path she could fall just like Lucifer did and that she should leave this to her. Emily tears up but says nothing, looking down sorrowfully at the guidelines provided. Her final appearance is the last episode, where she expresses joy that a redeemed sinner (Sir Pentious) appears during the seraphim's meeting.

In season 2 she has far more appearances. She appears at the ending of episode 1, telling Charlie that the hotel worked because Sir Pentious was redeemed and also that Heaven is going into lockdown. We later see the events that occurred in Heaven during episode 2. Emily digs her heels in, convinced that the reason Pentious is in Heaven is because he was redeemed and that Charlie is right. Tensions mount but ultimately Emily is proven correct by The Speaker. She then spends the day with Pentious, showing him around Heaven, trying and failing to make him happy until she makes him a new set of his minions and promising that she will be his friend.

Emily's next appears in episode 5. Charlie tries to get Emily's attention in Heaven, with her wanting to come down along with the other higher ups in Heaven. They argue back and forth for a bit, before, ultimately agreeing. Emily wants to apologize to all the sinners in Hell for the pain and death caused by Heaven, while Charlie wants them to prove that redemption is real in order to stop a powerful overlord named Vox from inciting a rebellion against Heaven. They agree! And it goes poorly because they tried apologizing for genocide with gift baskets. Vox shows everyone a small taste of the horrors inflicted. Sera tries to intimidate them into standing down, but only makes things worse. The angels leave and Emily spends the remainder of the episode in Sir Pentious's arms, tearfully apologizing.

In episode 7 Emily witnesses the power of Vox's superweapon shattering Heaven's barrier and breaking the pearly gates. Emily later tries to convince Sera to solve things peacefully. After some help from Sir Pentious, Sera tells Emily to go down to Hell and work with Charlie and her friends to come up with a peaceful solution. Together they all come up with a plan to broadcast to all of Hell that Sir Pentious is in Heaven and that they can resolve things peacefully.

Episode 8 is the finale and the execution of the plan. Emily acts mainly as a lookout, keeping her eyes on the situation and instructing everyone as best she can. Though things start out smoothly, it isn't long before things go off the rails. Emily tries to appeal to everyone peacefully once the broadcast fails, but most of the sinners are brainwashed by Vox. He ties her up with wires and sticks her in a chair. She remains there until Charlie frees her and the two work together to save as many sinners as possible once Vox loses his marbles and turns his superweapon on Hell in an attempt to stop fellow overlord Alastor.

Alastor ends up being one of the sinners saved by Emily, but she ends up caught in the blast; striping her wing down to the bone. Charlie rushes to her aid as Vox lines up the canon for one final shot before it overloads. He gets dealt with by his cohorts, but the canon is still about to blow. Emily limps over to it and works on creating a barrier to absorb the blast. She receives help from Charlie and various overlord level demons. Lute and Abel, two more angels, are sent to retrieve Emily as Sera was concerned for her safety, but Lute opts to try and get everyone killed while Emily begs Abel to stop her. Once he's able to do so, other overlords arrive to help Emily and the others contain the blast. With the superweapon stopped, Sera rushes down to see Emily and hugs her.

In the epilogue, Emily is shown with a golden prosthetic wing. Charlie state that Emily has been helping out the hotel and we see her deliver a gift basket to Cherri Bomb, Sir Pentious love interest, who in return asks her to delivery a letter to Pentious, which Emily does. She's last seen with him, laughing at his reaction to the letter.

Character's Personality:

Questions:

1. Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them. How would your character act once someone got to know them?

Bubbly is probably the best word to describe Emily. While it usually takes a lot more than a first impression to truly grasp a person's character, what you see is what you get when it comes to the Seraphim of Joy. At least, for the most part. Emily is kind, enthusiastic, energetic, loving, and sweet to a fault. She always tries to do the right thing and works hard to make the people around her feel happy and loved. In many ways she serves as a paragon for what angels should be. Not only kind and loving, but also not discriminating against others for who they are or what they are. Emily didn't even know that demons were suffering, but she feel in love with the idea of helping them get into Heaven all the same. She cares deeply for Heaven and its people and would love to share it with even more people.

However, despite her status as a shining beacon of what an angel should be, Emily is still ultimately a flawed person with feelings. She's not some robot who is only programed to spread joy and be happy. She feels for people who are suffering and she tries to help them. But she isn't perfect. Sometimes she'll say or do the wrong thing for the right reason and end up making things worse. But in those times, she always tries to make things right. And she feels the wide range of emotions that most people do and expresses them. She feels sadness and anger like most people do, and will not hesitate to stand up for what she believes in. And though she tries to be polite at all times, she won't sugarcoat things if she feels like being blunt is needed.

2. What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?

Even among her people, Emily stands out. One might even say she's strange! Emily is more excitable and friendly than other angels, but almost more awkward and even a bit clumsy. When first meeting Charlie and Vaggi, she gets so excited that she starts to ramble during her introduction, offering the princess a variety of names to call her if "Emily" alone isn't good enough. Not to mention that when she got the go ahead to talk to Charlie in episode 7, she actually opened a portal and got so excited she crashed. Despite being a seraphim, being graceful doesn't necessarily come naturally to her.

3. What does your character think their flaws are? What do they think their strengths are? What are their actual flaws and strengths?

When it comes to her flaws and strengths, Emily is honestly pretty emotionally intelligent so I imagine she'd get them right, but would likely be a bit harder on herself than she probably should be as far as flaws are concerned. One such acknowledgement of her flaws happens in season 1. Upon learning about the Exterminations, Emily questions if she was too naive to expect her sister to "heed the morals (she's) purveying" after having told Sera that she's "not a child." She's aware how people view her and fears that they may have been right. She also takes on a lot of guilt, feeling personally responsible for the the Exterminations, even if it was kept from her for years. She cries about it in season 1, in season 2 she looks visibly upset while saying that they bear "some of that responsibility" (as if she wanted to say more than that or felt personally responsible) and while not directly related, she says that (in regards to ice cream) "nothing beats the sadness away quite like saturated colors and sugar!" So it's fair to say that she might be speaking from experience.

As far as strengths are concerned, Emily knows that she's good at making people smile. Spreading joy to others is effectively her job and it's also the one thing she actually takes pride in. I doubt she even really considers it a job, as she tries to do it all the time. She would also consider her pacifism a major strength as well. No matter the situation, she always will try to find a peaceful means to solve her problems. Outside of her own feelings, one could say her main strengths are her strong sense of justice, her optimism, and her determination. Once she sets her mind on something she'll see it through to the end and she'll do it her way.

4. What is a common misconception other characters have about your character?

Most likely? That being happy and positive is all there is to her. Emily as a character is very happy and loves spreading joy but it still requires effort for her to do. When under extreme stress she can falter, stuttering as she struggles to find the words. She carries a lot of guilt about the Exterminations and the pain her people caused to "innocent souls". Though she functions as a beacon of goodness that many could aspire to be, she is ultimately a flawed person who struggles to do her best. She has feelings and failings just like everybody else and her desire to always do the right thing could be used against her by a clever mind.
